The Story Behind VoideVision
EJ Friedman is the artist behind VoideVision. They are an Asheville, North Carolina based printmaker and illustrator.
"Drawing has always been a way for me to ground myself and process the material world around me, giving me an avenue to imagine something beyond that world. When I am faced with emotional, political, interpersonal, or environmental challenges, I’ve found that picking up a pencil and making a mark has been one of the best tools I have to express, process, and navigate the heavier aspects of life. It is also how I am able to share my joy and sense of wonder.
I developed a love for printmaking while studying Studio Art and Psychology at the College of Charleston. The tactile aspect of carving a linoleum block and the human element of reproducing an image hooked me instantly!
In my work, I explore human psychology, aiming to create a lens through which one can peer into a different world—or just to see this world through a different perspective. I strive to provide my audience art that transports them to a more magical, whimsical, and curiously eerie reality. It is my hope that, through what started for me as escapist daydreams, we can develop a deeper connection with ourselves, our emotions, and others. "
